Mego Comic Action Heroes Checklist

On the heels of their popular World’s Greatest line of eight inch action figures, Mego Comic Action Heroes was released to bring a pocket sized alternative to the comic licenses in their ownership.

Released in 1975, these crouching figures stood 3 3/4″ tall and could easily be used with a number of playsets and vehicles also released in this line. There were 12 figures in all, mixing heroes and villains from both DC and Marvel properties.

Playsets included at least one Comic Action Hero figure with the Amazing Spider-Car packaged with three and the Exploding Bridge packaged with four. Production of the vehicles and playsets ran until 1978 with some of the molds repurposed for future Mego lines.

The smaller size and painted on suits made these figures very inexpensive to produce and, being only the second 3 3/4″ figure line to date (the first to feature licensed characters), paved the way for future lines for decades to follow. Each figure typically sold for $0.99 and playsets usually ran around $10.

This series would later be retooled into the Pocket Super Heroes line but Joker, Penguin, and Shazam would be replaced by characters from the Superman universe.

It can be difficult to find pieces from this series in complete condition and figures, vehicles, and playsets are often found on eBay or toy shows for top dollar.
