The 1934 Goudey Baseball card series featured a much smaller checklist than its 1933 predecessor — thanks to its depression era release — but it still packs quite a punch for collectors seeking Hall of Fame players. In fact, two Hall of Fame rookie cards are featured in this set (Luke Appling and Chick Hafey). The smaller checklist also reduced the number of duplicate players in the set with Lou Gehrig being the only player to appear more than once (#37 & #61).
84 of the cards in this set include the caption “Lou Gehrig says…” on the front with the remaining cards swapping Gehrig for Chuck Klein. The reverse of each card includes quotes about the player on the front, presumably associated with Gehrig or Klein respectively.
