1953 Topps Baseball is an incredibly popular and beloved card series that built on the successes and lessons of the 1951 release. Originally planned as a 280 card set, released over the course of four waves, the checklist ultimately capped out at 276 thanks to pending litigation between Topps and Bowman at the time. Although none of the rookies from this collection went on to Hall of Fame success, there are a few notable and highly sought after cards for collectors to track down such as Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Billy Martin who are among the players short printed in 1953.
This set is also notable as the final to include the St. Louis Browns and Boston Braves. Topps reissued the set in 1991 so collectors should be wary of pristine cards on the market place.
