1949 Leaf Football cards continued a numbering trend that Leaf was very fond of during this era in the hobby. Despite the set only containing 49 cards, the numbering goes all the way to 150 so that unsuspecting collectors would keep searching for 101 cards that didn’t actually exist.
The set’s card design is nearly identical to the various 1948 Leaf sets and, like those sets, is very prone to printing abnormalities. In fact, the design is so similar that some cards, such as “Slingin’ Sammy Baugh” are identical to their 1948 issues. It also features the rookie card for Hall of Famer inductee Charles Bednarik (#134).
