Scooter Gennett, second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds, had quite a night last night and the Topps company is rolling out the big guns as a part of their Topps Now series. Gennett was responsible for 10 of the Reds 13 runs in their 13-1 defeat of the St. Louis Cardinals thanks to a 5 for 5 night at the plate and four home runs.

The barrage of runs began in the bottom of the first with a single to left that scored Billy Hamilton from second. The next at bat for Scooter Gennett, contender for best contemporary baseball name, came in the third with the bases loaded and was the first of his home runs.

In the fourth inning, Gennett followed a three RBI triple off the bat of Eugenio Suarez with a two run jack to deep centerfield, his second of the night. His third homer would come in the sixth inning to extend the Reds’ lead to 10 but it was the two run homer in the bottom of the ninth that sealed Scooter Gennett’s into the baseball history books as he became the 17th to ever record four home runs in a single game.

At the end of the day, Scooter Gennett went 5 for 5 with four home runs, 10 RBI, and 17 total bases. Last night’s game now accounts for 9.5% of his total career home runs, and 33% of this season’s RBI count. He has lifted his average to one home run per every 17.42 plate appearances, up from 1:39 going into last night’s game. In five major league seasons, he has now topped two seasons worth of RBI.
