John Lennon was asked to write a political campaign anthem but along the way created one of the Beatles’ most enduring and classic tracks. The song morphed from a Chuck Berry pastiche (for which John would later be sued) into one of the band’s grooviest and funkiest tracks.
Come Together was released as a double A-side single along with Something (Harrison’s first A-side) and reached the top spot in countries all over the world. It also opened the band’s final recorded album, Abbey Road.
