1970 Lyons Maid Pop Stars trading cards were distributed in frozen desserts from the Lyons Maid company. This set is separate from the 1970 Lyons Maid Pop Scene collection.

The checklist consists of 40 musical acts of the time. The Beatles and Rolling Stones are both featured as a full band as well as individual members while The Monkees are featured as individuals with no group card. Those three bands make up a third of the checklist.

The bottom of each card included a redeemable “free pop” token so finding complete cards can be a challenge. Cards without the token do show up for reasonable prices, however.

For die hard Beatles fans, it’s worth noting that there is a card that features Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, and Tich. Prior to recording the song I Me Mine, George Harrison can be heard saying, “You all will have read that Dave Dee is no longer with us, but Mickey and Tich and I, just like to carry on the good work that’s always gone down in number two.” This was a reference to the fact that John Lennon was not present at the session for this recording.
