]]>Many of the figures are a part of the company’s ReAction line of collectibles but they’re all branded under individual monikers. Player action figures stand 3 3/4-inches tall and are packaged on card backs that feature actual player images. Each figure has five points of articulation.
Baseball Superstars features a checklist of today’s biggest name in the game while the Classic All Stars focus on the all-time greats of yesteryear. As the series currently stands, there is a large gap with players from the 1960s through to the early 2000s not appearing in either set. Further, the Classic All Stars series is limited to four teams. No doubt, Super7 has a near-limitless supply of worthy additions to make to this collection in the future.
This guide combines all of the various brandings into one convenient spot. Clicking on links within this guide will direct you to affiliate retailers or to relevant eBay listings for that figure.

]]>Meanwhile, in Arizona, Shohei Ohtani logged his first hit of Angels’ spring training, starting the game in the second spot of the lineup. It took three at-bats — the two-way player walked in his first two plate appearances — for him to record his first hit and RBI for the team. Coming off of a disappointing debut on the mound, Ohtani fans surely sighed a breath of relief to see some of his storied plate discipline translate to the majors.
Lastly J.D. Martinez received his formal introduction as a member of the Boston Red Sox after signing a five year deal with the team last week worth $110 million.
All three players are the subjects of today’s Topps Now trading cards with Wilson receiving the honor of being 2018’s first autograph card in the on-demand series. Each card will be available online (links on this page) for 24 hours and printed to order.
Wilson’s autograph cards are all limited and numbered and Ohtani is already the record holder for total sales after his pitching debut card sold over 11,000 copies. Today’s checklist is as follows and the full Topps Now checklist can be found on the 2018 Topps Now checklist page.
Final print runs for these cards will be announced after sales have closed and will be updated on our checklist for easy reference.

]]>His lone home run came off the bat of Keon Broxton in the second inning on a 1-1 count. Ohtani was replaced one batter later after Nick Franklin flew out to left field on the first pitch.
As a part of their daily on-demand trading card product, Topps has released a Shohei Ohtani rookie card commemorating one of the most anticipated debuts in decades. Available for only 24 hours (see the links on this page), the final print run of this card will be determined on demand.
The back of the card names Ohtani as “perhaps the most highly anticipated two-way player since Babe Ruth“, an auspicious but seemingly accurate analysis of the excitement he brings to the Angels franchise this season.
One spring training game shouldn’t erase any of that excitement, despite Ohtani’s struggles with his control. Of his 31 pitches, only 17 were thrown for strikes. A wild pitch in the first brought in the first run of the game and Ji-Man Shoi walked on four pitches.
Ohtani will, no doubt, be a major story for the rest of spring training as 29 other fan-bases hope that he’s not the double threat the Angels are banking on. His previous Topps Now card, released on December 14 to commemorate his signing, sold 17,323 copies and was the best selling Topps Now card of all time. Visit our 2018 Topps Now checklist to keep up with how his other cards sell over the course of the season.

The San Francisco Giants were able to secure their first series sweep of the 2017 season on Wednesday with a 5-3 deafest over the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies struck first with two runs in the top of the first but the Giants were finally able to strike against Kyle Freeland in the bottom of the 4th to take a 3-2 lead.
The Rockies would tie the game at 3 in the 6th but it wouldn’t last long as the recently called-up third baseman, Jae-gyun Hwang would blast a 2-0 pitch to left, giving the Giants a lead they would not relinquish. This was the first big league hit for the 29 year old from South Korea and he would end his day with a .250/.250.1.000 batting line.
While the Giants make today’s checklist with home runs, the Reds make the list for stealing them. With two men on base in the top of the 2nd inning, newly acquired catcher, Stephen Vogt, hit a flyball to right but Scott Schebler was not going to let it leave the yard and, making a catch that is in contention for play of the year, turned a three run homer into a one run sac-fly. The Reds would go on to beat the Brewers by one run.
The Yankees are in dire need of a rookie who can excite the fanbase and they may have found it in the 22 year old DH, Miguel Andujar. In his first game with the Yankees, he went 3 for 4 with three hits (including a double), a walk, and a stolen base. Along the way he brought in four and became the first Yankee to have 3 hits and 4 RBI in his debut.
His line by the end of the day was .750/.800/1.000 and his contribution helped the Yankees defeat the White Sox 12-3 and tie the team for first place in their division.
The Chicago Cubs, currently in second place in their division and at an even .500 W/L, made a trip to the oval office for their second executive tour with a World Series Trophy. Having missed the chance to meet several presidents in the past, the team seems to be making up for it this year.
The Cubs’ previous trip to the White House, to visit former President Obama, was documented in the 2016 Topps Now MLB series as cards #OS-43, #OS-44, and #OS-45. Those cards sold 1,200, 1,238, and 1,301 cards respectively.
You dont’ see it every day but it’s part of what makes baseball the greatest sport of all. Facing off against the seemingly unstoppable Dodgers (52-28), the Angels entered their final frame tied at 2. With one out on the board, Ben Revere reached first base on an error (E6). He then took second on a wild pitch and, with a 2-2 count on Cameron Maybin, was able to score on a swinging strikeout/passed ball.
It isn’t pretty but it’s still beautiful. The run wasn’t earned and didn’t count as an RBI for Maybin. In fact, Revere didn’t take a single base on a ball in play.
All of these cards are available for sale until 1:00 PST on Friday, June 30th. Print runs are limited to the total ordered. Use the link below or anywhere else on this page to be taken directly to the Topps Now page. A complete checklist of this set as well as final print runs for these cards can be found by clicking the hub page button at the top of this page.

]]>The post The stat in which Mike Trout has surpassed some of the all-time greats appeared first on Hero Habit.
]]>To recap: nobody has more Wins Above Replacement (WAR) than Trout through their age-24 season. Not only that, but just 201 position players in MLB history have produced more WAR than him in their entire careers.
Ted Berg of USA Today has tracked Trout’s procession through the WAR leaderboard, noting that the Millville Meteor surpassed 32 Hall of Famers (hitters and pitchers) in career WAR this last season alone. And while that list contains some impressive names – Hoyt Wilhelm, Jim Rice and Phil Rizzuto – they tend to be at the lower end of the Hall of Fame spectrum. By another measure, however, Trout has already bested some of the all-time greats.
Wins Above Average (WAA) differs from Wins Above Replacement in a way that should be apparent by the name of the statistic: while WAR compares a player to a hypothetical replacement player from the minor leagues, WAA evaluates a player based on how much better they are than the average major leaguer. A player can accumulate WAR by turning up and not disgracing themselves; achieving a positive WAA requires a much higher level of play.
[the_ad id=”8832″]The career of Pete Rose illustrates the differences between the statistics. Rose ranks 40th on the career WAR leaderboard among hitters, in part due to the sheer length of his career. But Rose was rarely an above average player in his later years. In his final decade in the majors Rose was worth 7.9 WAR, but negative 11 WAA (or 11 Wins Below Average). As a result he is only 125th on the position player WAA list, 85 places below his placing on equivalent WAR leaderboard.
By contrast, Sandy Koufax – a player with a brief career but who pitched the majority of his innings at a high level – ranks 80th in pitching WAR, but 58th in pitching WAA.
Which brings us to Mike Trout. As previously noted, Trout is 202nd in career WAR among position players. But by virtue of playing at an elite level for his whole career to date, he is 78th in position player WAA.
Last year alone he surpassed 30 Hall of Fame hitters in WAA, including recent inductees Iván Rodríguez and Tim Raines. Tony Gwynn, Mike Piazza, Reggie Jackson, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Roberto Alomar, Willie McCovey, Andre Dawson and Ernie Banks are all players that Trout eclipsed in career WAA in 2016.
It is true that players tend to lose WAA in the latter stages of their career, the cachet of their name guaranteeing playing time despite waning production. But Trout is just 25 years old; for now, the only way is up. Immediately above him on the WAA leaderboard are the likes of Ron Santo, Home Run Baker, Hank Greenberg, Robin Yount and Paul Molitor.
If Trout accumulates four Wins Above Average next season he’ll have passed those players, in addition to Frank Thomas, Jackie Robinson, Sliding Billy Hamilton, Brooks Robinson and Gary Carter among others. Given that Trout has averaged 7 WAA per season, 2017 could also see him pass the likes of Luke Appling, Ozzie Smith and Barry Larkin.
Trout is already ninth in career WAA among center fielders, sitting above Carlos Beltrán, Andruw Jones and Duke Snider. By the end of 2017 he’ll likely have passed Kenny Lofton and the aforementioned Hamilton, with Ken Griffey Jr. and Joe DiMaggio next in his sights.
A reminder that Mike Trout is 25.
It’s no secret that Trout is great – the best of his era and the best of his age in any era. That his brief career has arguably been more outstanding than the entire careers of some all-time greats, however, is truly astonishing.
