Funko has announced that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are making their first appearance in the Dorbz line of min vinyl figures. Set for a winter 2016 release, Masters of the Universe will consist of five different figure, three of which have variant versions for collectors.
Unlike Funko Pop figures, Dorbz are sequentially numbered as one massive set and the figures included in the Masters of the Universe wave are numbered as follows:
- 241 – He-Man
- 241 – He-Man dressed as Prince Adam variant
- 242 – Skeletor
- 242 – Skeletor with gold and dark hood variant
- 243 – Mat At Arms
- 244 – Merman
- 244 – Merman blue variant
- 262 – Faker
Faker (262) is an exclusive to Walmart retail stores while the He-Man, Skeletor, and Merman variants are released in a limited (1:6) number.
With an expansive cast of characters that also spreads into the She-Ra Princess of Power franchise, this is hopefully the beginning of many Masters of the Universe figures to appear in the Dorbz line. There are already seven Masters of the Universe figures in the Funko Pop Television line, including fan favorites like She-Ra and Hordak which are not included in this Dorbz wave, and the Wacky Wobblers line so it would seem that Funko is fairly invested in this license.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was one of the most popular toy/cartoon franchises of the 1980s. The first wave of Masters of the Universe action figures, released by Mattel between 1982 and 1988, continue to be a popular collectors item and MIB figures regularly sell for hundreds of dollars.
The media franchise included the action figures, television cartoon, comic books, and a live-action movie. DC Comics, who have been associated with the line since its inception, have relaunched the comic line, as a mini-series and as an online comic, a few times over the last few years and a convention devoted to He-Man has become an annual event.
