Funko Pop Animation to Add Hanna Barbera Figures

Heavens to Murgatroyd! Due for a December, 2016 release, Funko has announced a few new Hanna Barbera figures for their Pop Animation line. These are not the first Hanna Barbera figures to be added to this line and like previous releases, they are labeled with each individual cartoon as opposed to a more generic Hanna Barbera branding.

The figures to be added are as follows:

  • 166 – Atom Ant
  • 168 – Snagglepuss
  • 169 – Wally Gator
  • 170 – Touche Turtle

Snagglepuss, Wally Gator, and Touche Turtle also come with chase variations which are, primarily, differences in coloring. A complete checklist for the Funko Pop Animation line can be found under the tab at the top of this screen, including variants.

To refresh your memory on where these new Hanna Barbera figures originated, Snagglepuss was primarily a feature on the Yogi Bear show and also appeared in some generic Hanna Barbera variety shows. Atom Ant, along with Secret Squirrel, was a standalone show for two seasons in the mid 1960s which released 26 episodes.

Wally Gator and Touche Turtle were both segments on The Hanna Barbera New Cartoon Series. Along with Lippy the Lion & Hardy Har Har, each character received one segment of each week’s episode for a total of 52 shorts from 1962 to 1963.

These characters have continued to appear in Hanna Barbera franchises well beyond the end of their respective series runs and are¬†often aired in syndication for years. Although not as instantly recognizable as some of Hanna Barbera’s cornerstone characters, there is definitely a nostalgia to these characters and the new Funko figures will bring that nostalgia to your collection.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must exit stage right.
